LOVE ON THE ROCKS

Soichi Terada is one of the most enigmatic figures on the Japanese electronic music scene, his output oscillating between house, video-game music and acoustic folklore. After studying music at the University of Tokyo, he turned to electronic music production in the mid-80s, inspired by Yellow Magic Orchestra and the US house scene, which was booming at the time. In 1989, Terada founded the Far East Recording label and created a unique house sound with warm, melodic productions that fused Chicago and New York house with East Asian harmonies and instrumentation. Meanwhile, Terada also composed soundtracks for video games, with playful breakbeats and polymetric textures underlining his stylistic openness. It was not until Hunee's compilation Sounds from the Far East (Rush Hour, 2015) that his early work was rediscovered in the West – an overdue appreciation that gave him a comeback as a live performer and producer. Terada will be playing live at tonight's Love On The Rocks party, along with fellow DJs such as the two Slow Life label owners Cecilio and Laurine.
