Gaia Banfi

Gaia Banfi is a singer-songwriter, musician, and producer born on January 7, 1998, in Milan. Her artistic work is expressed in the field of experimentation and combination of pop, singer-songwriter music, and electronics. Airy voices and timbres mix in a set of contrasts, of electronic influences and distorted sounds, often to the extreme of singability, in order to make the voice equal to an element of musical production. Daughter of Baffo Banfi, historic keyboardist of the Italian prog group Un Biglietto per l'Inferno, Gaia grew up immersed in music. Thanks to her father's experience, she came into contact with music at a very young age. At six, she began studying singing, later dedicated herself to classical guitar and violin, then graduated in Jazz Singing with top marks at the Conservatory of Bologna, under the guidance of Diana Torto. In 2020, she published her debut album Lotus, which marks the beginning of an increasingly personal and innovative artistic journey.

Since 2022, she has collaborated with producer and artist AKA5HA, with whom she has deepened her passion for electronic and experimental music, creating more refined and audacious sounds. In the same year, she launched her instrumental electronic project Non si può stare morti per sempre (“You Can’t Be Dead Forever”), presented on February 24, 2023, during the namesake exhibition by artist Ilaria Demo De Lorenzi. In 2023, Gaia took part in X Factor, bringing to the stage “a parallel musical world, and earning the respect of those who truly love music” [Rolling Stone Italia]. Also in 2023, Gaia showcased her music at various events: from the Reset Festival in Turin to Efesto House in Bologna, and a live performance at Colonne 28 in Parma. Between December 2023 and January 2024, she performed a solo set opening for several Italian dates of Daniela Pes.

In January 2025, the journey toward her new album began with the release of the single Piazza Centrale, which brought Gaia excellent placements on digital platforms. The second and final single, Seia, followed shortly after. Both tracks that anticipate the upcoming album are accompanied by two special lyric videos made using archival footage provided by the Ansaldo Foundation of Genoa.

La Maccaia is the new album, released on April 4, 2025, via Trovarobato. The following day, April 5, an intimate and immersive listening session of the album was held at Serra Madre in Bologna.
