Kole Leijenn aka DJ Surgeles from the Netherlands has been DJing since 1998, producing spacey, Detroit-influenced techno with a futuristic sound design. His musical journey began at the age of five upon discovering his parents' record collection, and at eight his sister introduced him to house music. Shortly afterwards, he was given his first turntables and quickly developed a passion for DJing and producing. In 2005, he gave Jeff Mills a demo – who one day later got back to him, and shortly afterwards released a Surgeles remix of “The Bells” on Axis Records for the classic track's anniversary. This was followed by five more albums on Mills' label as well as releases on his own U.F.F Records. Surgeles will be playing at Berghain for the first time tonight. Meanwhile, West Coast electro pioneer and one of the most dazzling figures of the 80s, Egyptian Lover returns to Säule for the Sunday concert after playing here last July, following the release of his latest album 1987, which combines electro beats with funk, rap and a pinch of unmistakeable sex appeal.
