Alexander Flood is one of Australia’s commanding beat-masters, possessing a finessed arsenal of groove, power, and expertise on the drums. His unique sound and approach on the instrument has been crafted through many years of study, dedication and hustling. Leading his own band from the drum chair, Alex’s music pushes a fresh rhythmic and dynamic realm of live dance music leaning on nu-jazz, deep-house, broken beat, DnB, funk, and experimental sounds.
Winning Australia’s Best Up and Coming Drummer Competition in 2016 was just the beginning of Flood’s accelerating trajectory in music.
In 2020, just a few years after graduating top of his University jazz degree, Alex signed with US label Stretch Music to release his debut album Heartbeat, followed by his sophomore release The Space Between in 2022. While in Berlin Flood recorded his third album Oscillate with an all-star lineup of Horatio Luna, Àbáse, and Paulo Cedraz, released via Jakarta Records in May 2023.
On a quest for global grooves of unity, Àbáse is the imagination of Hungarian producer and keyboardist Szabolcs Bognár. Creating an exquisite blend of jazz, West African, Brazilian, hip-hop and electronic music, he set to release his second album “Awakening” in collaboration with Analogue Foundation in spring 2024. Having already gained support from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Gilles Peterson, Soulection, Okayplayer, Worldwide FM, Stamp The Wax, Earmilk, Complex and KEXP, Àbáse released his long anticipated debut EP ‘Invocation’ in 2019 via HHV Records and Cosmic Compositions and early 2021, released ‘Body Mind Spirit’ EP, a collaborative electronic exploration with drummer/producer Ziggy Zeitgeist. Late 2021 saw the release of the acclaimed debut album “Laroyê”, recorded entirely during a five month trip to Brazil and resulted in global praise for the project. The word “àbáse” comes from the West African Yoruba language and stands for “collaboration” –a key element of Bognár’s music, as he brings together versatile artists from around the world to push genre and style boundaries. As a trained keyboard player, Bognár has been active in the versatile music scene of Budapest for many years. He’s been leading several successful acts, including Solqlap Budapest and The Mabon Dawud Republic, a fourteen piece afrobeat orchestra hosting Felabration Budapest and guest-starring the likes of Dele Sosimi and Pat Thomas. After residencies in Paris, Lyon, New York, Accra, Rio De Janeiro and Salvador, Bognár is now based in Berlin, where besides pursuing his solo career, he is also the keyboard player for Nigerian soul singer Wayne Snow, local collective Sonic Interventions and Australian jazz drummer Ziggy Zeitgeist’s Zeitgeist Freedom Energy Exchange. His involvement with the international music scene led to studio or stage collaborations with diverse artists such as Immanuel Wilkins, Elzhi, Guilty Simpson, Phat Kat, Etuk Ubong, Moses Yoofee, Petter Eldh or Patti Smith.
